Hydraulic hose assembling is a crucial operation to ensure durability, safety, and high performance in the installation and maintenance of hydraulic systems. Following the recommended procedures carefully can make all the difference.
Below, you’ll find a step-by-step guide to proper hydraulic hose assembling.
Instructions for correct hydraulic hose assembling
- Preparation of the hose and fitting
- Ensure the ferrule and fitting are compatible with the type of flexible hose.
- For certain ferrules and fittings, skiving may be required. Consult the crimping chart to check the correct skiving length and whether it should be performed only externally or also internally.
- Place the ferrule onto the previously cut hose (refer to our guide on How to Cut Flexible Hoses for details).
- Insert the tail and, if necessary, lightly lubricate it with compatible hydraulic oil.
- Alignment
- Ensure the fitting’s stop point is in contact with the ferrule.
- For elbow fittings, verify that the angle and orientation are correct.
- Crimping
- Select the appropriate dies for the crimping operation.
- Place the hose end between the crimping press dies, ensuring the entire length of the ferrule is properly inserted.
- Crimp the assembly to the value indicated in the crimping chart.
- Post-Crimping checks
- Use a go/no-go gauge to check the internal diameter of the tail.
- Ensure the measurements comply with the collapse values specified in the crimping tables.
Visual and dimensional inspection
After assembling, it is crucial to inspect the hose assembly before delivery or use, in accordance with the company’s quality plan. The inspection should consider:
- Cleanliness: Remove dust, chips, and rubber residues.
- Protection: Use caps to prevent contamination.
- Labeling: Apply any required labels.
By following these guidelines, you can achieve a safe, durable, and efficient assembly that meets the required quality standards.
